Joseph Conserve Obituary

Joseph Pierre Paul Conserve, aged 72, succumbed on July 25, 2022, under an incurable illness that he fought courageously. He was born on June 29, 1950, to the late Chrisostome and Claurizane Conserve, in Croix-des-Bouquets (Haiti) and in a small town called Guedon. He was one of 11 children.

Joseph went to primary school at Charlotin Marcadieu, in Croix-des-Bouquets. At the completion of which, he could not pursue secondary education because of chronic illnesses. As a result, he was able to acquire farming skills, discipline, and patience from his father which later served him as the ultimate foundation to form a family and provided him with the appropriate leadership in his professional life.

He was a father figure to his younger siblings. He was their caregiver and the one from whom they mostly picked up their moral principles. He assumed that role effectively, while on the farm alongside his father, and by working various jobs to help pay for their education. Joseph was a well-known contractor in Croix-des-Bouquets. At his residence, he had a business that specialized in making sender-blocks. In addition to those activities, Joseph taught catechism and prepared kids in the community for their 1st communion. He also facilitated the schooling of many other children by building and providing the appropriate structure for that accommodation.

In 1978, he met the love of his life, Idalie St. Jean, whom he married five years later, in 1983, from the same church where they initially met. They gave birth to two daughters, Jodalie and Flodana, before he immigrated to the United States in 1987. Once he settled in his new country of residence, a year later, his wife joined him. They had two additional children: Djolink and Christopher.

Those who knew Joseph would describe him as a visionary. Through his leadership skills, he contributed greatly to the development of his hometown: Guedon. He founded a civic organization which he called “Conseil de Development Communautaire de Guedon. He later initiated solid projects that resulted in clean drinking water, housing development, water irrigation, road fixing, and the building of a communal school for the township of Guedon. He also taught and became the director of it. Truly, he was an invaluable asset to his community.

Joseph also served his country through the military branch formerly known as “Leopard”. Following that experience, he fulfilled the position as “Chef Section” in Croix-des-Bouquets.

When he arrived in the United States in search of better opportunities, he found employment at Rockland Cooperation in West Caldwell, NJ. He used his limited source of revenue to support his immediate family and extended family members whom he had left behind in Haiti. With the help of his newly arrived wife, he was able to bring and reunite with his daughters and other family members.

Despite his ongoing health issues, he remained an active member of the Church. He was a faithful servant at the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in East Orange, NJ. He participated in the “Legion of Marie”, and “Groupe Charismatique”; he was a Choir Member, and would volunteer for any other related activities at the Church.

Joseph was very generous. He was financially supportive to many families and individuals who would need a helping hand. Part of his hobbies involved visiting friends and family members. On his deathbed, Joseph was surrounded by his immediate family. He displayed an insatiable thirst for life as he battled vehemently to remain alive. His courage in the face of the deadly cancer speaks volume about his innate desire to face challenges, medical or else, with the hope to overcome them all.

Joseph was truly a blessed man. He was the loving father and husband. He is survived by his loving wife, Idalie; his Children, Jodalie, Flodana, Djolink and Christopher; his grandchildren, Angella Noel, Jeremiah Noel, Andrew Damour, Lourenzo Dessources, Luciano Dessources, Malachi Conserve, Liam Dessources, Hailey Dessources, Makayla Conserve, and Mathias Conserve; his brothers and sisters, Jean Claude Conserve, Emile Conserve, Emmanuel Conserve, Iclide Cham Conserve, Clogette Dejean Conserve, Brisson Conserve, Chrismond Conserve, Francisco Conserve, Anthony Conserve, and Laurent Conserve; In-laws, Janette Melus, Paula Monjeune, Odlin Cham, Leclerc Dejean, Irenee Guerrier, Adele Dormevil, Christmare Origene, Judith Louis, Nadine Jean Louis;  His nieces and nephews, Ansley, Niselie, Widler, Oldy, Gauthie, Nadia, Laurie , Rickson, Ludgie, Eddy, Ludwose, Kinsley, Emeline Peggy, Himler, Kareen Cham, James Cham, Igerson, Patricia, Mikerline Sendie, Rose Marielle, Berry, Manessa, Starah, George Alex, Felix, Sherley, Ezechiel, Fabienne, Fabiola, Ricardo, Fadelene, Cliford, Lovensky, Sendie, Ashley, and Mischael Olivier; Uncle and aunts, Daniel, Gaston, Gaspard and Viegela Paul; other families, family of Altidore, Polynice, Arsene, Dagene, Dervil, Senat, Osias, Pierre, Noel and St Jean ; and other immeasurable friends.
