Irana Medy

After fighting a valiant battle with cancer, the Lord saw it fit to call his beloved child, Irana Marie Medy, home. On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the age of 75, Irana passed away at Wynwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. 

Irana was born on November 9, 1945, in Jérémie, Haiti to the late Inonise Valmont and Pascale Medy. She had 18 siblings: 9 sisters and 9 brothers one of whom was her twin. Her twin sister Irani Medy passed away at the age of 29.  

Irana was a couturière (seamstress) and designer.  As a hobby, she made beaded handmade purses and bags that she sold in Haiti as well as in the United States. She migrated to the United States on May 17, 2000 to join her sons and the rest of her family and made New Jersey her home.  

Although Irana had three children, she was a mother to many. She always provided words of encouragement and shared advice in her well known sweet voice. Irana was an amazing cook. She cared for so many children in her family, she endearingly became known as simply "Auntie" or "Tati". She was loved by so many. She was definitely the laundry guru. Keeping her secrets close to her vest, she was known to be able remove any stains from clothes and make whites whiter than snow.

Irana, a devoted Christian, accepted Christ at an early age. She served the Lord until the end, seldom missing prayer conference calls with Pastor Jay. 

Irana will be remembered for her gracious smile, love for family, unwavering love for her sons and the gift of storytelling.  Not only did she share cherished memories about the family, but she also recounted incredible stories of her dreams foreshadowing things to come. She often weaved the dreamworld with actual events creating a mosaic of experiences in order to drive her point home or create a cultural familiarity for her audience. 

Irana is survived by her son Joel Paul and his wife Kethly Gilbert-Paul; the late Aulysse Paul and his wife Muriel Paul, and a daughter who passed away at the tender age of 9 months; grandchildren Jeremiah, Jason, and Kasey Paul; siblings Erone Medy, Tifeli Medy, Louisiene Medy, Saint-Louise Medy; nieces and cousins Romain Laguerre, Rose Martha Laguerre, Nadege Laguerre, Jonathan Laguerre Thara Laguerre, Nesly Dorcely, and countless family and friends who were blessed to know her. Her memory will live on in everyone she touched.
