Elipha Nelson was born on August 23, 1935 in Dame-Marie, Haiti from Phalante Nelson and Occilia Jean. He was the last of 11 siblings. As early as 17 yrs old, the young Elipha decided to be on his own. After a failed attempt to join the army, he ends up being a very skilled tailor and was praised by everyone for his ability. He opened his own shop (Au gré du Vent marchand tailleur) and was the king of the community.
“Au gré” was the father of 9 kids, 6 from his ex-wife Marie Claire Cazal to whom he marry in 1963. He worked in different place in Haiti, SNEM, in the town of Cayes, Mirebalais, Anse d'Hainault, Jérémie and Port-au-Prince before heading to United States in 1982 in quest of a better life for his family. He worked hard for the rest of his family to rejoin him in the mid 90's. Elipha was a very honest man who believed in hard work and integrity and try his best to pass down those moral values to his kids.
Overall, Elipha was a good and humble man, a great father, who will be dearly missed by all of those whom he knew and loved.
May he rest in peace.
