Andre Valmont was born on October 10, 1947, in Cabaret, Haiti, where he grew up with his two siblings Marie Valmont and Rodrigue Valmont. While in Haiti, he worked as a mechanic at Isuzu as a young adult. In the year 1975 my father fell in love and married the love of his life, Marielle Andre, in Port-Au-Prince Haiti and began a family. Andre eventually moved from Haiti to the United States and was joined by his family soon after. Upon his arrival in the United States, Andre made his life’s work as a diesel mechanic for the companies Penske and Jack Cooper for 22 years. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and be the best father that he could be. Andre also loved to give, and he would give to the community in his own unique way. On Saturday nights, Andre enjoyed purchasing blue fish in bulk and visiting church families early Sunday morning between 3 am and 5 am to deliver food to families in need or just out of consideration of his heart. After decades of hard work in the United States, Andre was proud to fulfill his dream of building a home in Haiti to live in after his retirement in 2015. Andre loved to embrace people, especially his friends. He loved to smile, tell jokes and give playful handshakes. He was a true people’s person and leaves behind a legacy of joy and laughter. He was a devoted member of the Mount of Olives Church choir named Temwen de La Yo, where he was a bass singer. He was also part of the missionary group known as the Soldiers of Christ (Soldat de Christ).
Andre was called home on September 10, 2023, at Saint Barnabas hospital in Livingston, NJ. Andre was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Rodrigue and his son Djunkens (DJ). Andre will be remembered by his wife Marielle Andre; his sons Patrick and Daniel Valmont; his grandchildren Moneasha, Matthew, Mia and Danielle Valmont; his sister Marie Valmont; his nieces Gerline, Marjorie and Marie; and his nephews Gerole and Cali. He also leaves behind first Cousins Yvose, Lener, Magarette, Mode, and Joseline as well as a host of friends and church family.
